In fact, he took this melody just exactly as you listen to it (except the piano part) and arranged it. Also Bartok believed in the brootherhood between all East Europeans and the bonds, the true bonds that attache all them (all you), Slovaks, hungarian, romanians, slovenians, serbs, etc. As a sensible humanist, he despised all cultural and separatist fascification or political nationalism. Love for the country and the culture, and culture always, goes further than the map borders.

Pianist on the 2nd movement, when the melody repeats, harmony is supposed to be i V i and then the A Major, which they left out. It kind of made me sad that they would butcher Bartok's intentions.

Janine Jansen is not from Amsterdam. She is actually from Soest, my hometown ;)It's in the exact geographical centre of our country, The Netherlands :)

Bartók was not romanian, this piece is made a bit of how Bartók sees romanians.

I love this piece sooooo, much, its my absolute favorate musical composition with the exception of Strävinsky's rite of spring (four handed piano version)and this violinist did a wonderful job!I've seen to many ppl butcher this peice

agree! In my book Ms. Jansen can do no wrong - she is a pleasure to look at and to listen to.

If you're distracted by the musicians' movements, then close your eyes! Music doesn't have to be seen to be heard.

Personally I think the violinist did a great job on all the dances save the third (with the harmonics). The harmonics could have been clearer, but otherwise I thought this performance was very moving.
